Working for the community to make Lossiemouth a better place to live, work and visit.

Formed in 2014, Lossiemouth Community Development Trust (LCDT) is a Scottish charity based in Lossiemouth, on the beautiful Moray Coast.

Our projects focus on place and infrastructure in the town. We support the regeneration and improvement of facilities in Lossiemouth, and we support other community groups who seek to to the same. Find out about our projects.

We are an independent community-owned and led, membership organisation, governed by a voluntary board of trustees.Β  We have two part-time staff and are supported by a team of cheery volunteers.Β  Would you like to get involved?

Our strategy is developed through regular engagement with the people of Lossiemouth and strong relationships with other local stakeholders in order to create sustainable and effective change. Have your say!

🌱Have you seen the James Square herb planters?

The new planters at James Square are part of a communal food growing project created and cared for by volunteers from LCDT's Lossie Growers.

The herbs are for everyone to pick, smell, taste and enjoy. Please help yourself and discover the wonderful flavours and scents of these versatile plants!

We will be officially launching the planters at the the first ever Moray Community Garden Festival on the weekend of 6th and 7th June.

Volunteers will be at the planters between 2 and 4pm talking about herbs, with fun activities and more information about growing your own food in Lossie.

Find out more and download details of all the participating gardens in Moray at www.facebook.com/events/2001838747105533

Huge thanks to everyone that's been involved, particularly Iain and Janet, Wendy, Nicki and Euan.

This project was made possible thanks to generous funding from Third Sector Interface Moray Health & Wellbeing Fund.

πŸ“’ An update on the West Beach project.

We continue to work with all the stakeholders, including the landowner and her representative, to find a community-first solution to keep the car park open, retain access to the West Beach, protect the area from further damage and enhance the facilities.

Thank you to everyone who completed the survey last year or visited the action days. All your responses were read and collated and have been taken into consideration.

πŸ˜• But we dont yet have a solution to present to you.

Earlier this year, we engaged MKA Consulting to meet with each of the stakeholders, assess the options and create a common vision, something which would be feasible, fundable and fair.

The preferred outcome sounded great - substantial sea defences to protect and sustain the area, better traffic management and a new watersports and community building overlooking the bay with public toilets and showers. A real destination to be proud of!

πŸ˜” Unfortunately, that outcome was too ambitious, just too expensive to pursue in the current climate.

So were now scaling the project right down to something hopefully more affordable, commissioning a shovel-ready solution for budget sea defences, in the hope that funding can be found for the capital build, and that budget is available to maintain and repair those defences in the future.

🀞 Were hopeful to have more information on this later in the summer, at which point we can share better plans with the community.

πŸ–οΈ Because its not just about having somewhere to park a car next year. Its about retaining public access to the West Beach for everyone that enjoys this beautiful area - the dog walkers, the swimmers, the paddleboarders, the golfers, the cafe-visitors, the aurora spotters and the chippy-tea-in-the-car eaters!

Incredible that as you do amazing work to protect the dunes and shoreline a few hundred yards up the shore and develop work will be eroding them. The mind just boggles. Please do keep up your good work, too few people say THANK YOU

Thank you so much for your continued efforts, it's much appreciated! ❀️❀️ Maintaining accessible car parking at west beach is vital for many people, including me, as it's one of the few local places that has short distance, relatively level, access to the sea (when there's spaces). It's literally my lifeline at times. Don't suppose you could do anything about all the rocks while you're at it 🀣🀣
